Dr. John W. Townsend
Vice President, Reproductive Health Program
Dr. John W. Townsend is vice president of the Population Council's Reproductive Health program. He is responsible for overseeing the Council's contraceptive product development as well as the design and implementation of strategies to promote better reproductive health and family planning programs worldwide, especially among disadvantaged populations in developing countries, through research and policy innovations. Dr. Townsend has worked for the Population Council for 25 years. During his tenure with the Council, he has served as the director of the Frontiers in Reproductive Health program; director of operations research programs in Asia and the Near East; regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean in Mexico; director of operations research programs in Latin America and the Caribbean; and country director for Colombia.
